Dave Bautista to Officially Star in Amazon’s God of War
Dave Bautista (known for Guardians of the Galaxy) has officially been tapped to star as the lead in Amazon’s live-action adaptation of the iconic video game franchise God of War, as reported by Variety.
Bautista will step into the role of Kratos. The series draws from the Norse mythology era of the games, following Kratos as he embarks on a perilous journey to scatter his late wife’s ashes—a quest that forces him to navigate daunting challenges alongside his son, Atreus.
The role was originally slated for Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy); however, he was forced to step down following a severe bicep tendon tear sustained on set in mid-July. Production on God of War is scheduled to resume shortly, with Bautista set to reshoot all sequences previously completed with Hurst.
The series is expected to premiere on Prime Video no earlier than the second half of 2027. The ensemble cast also features Teresa Palmer, Ed Skrein, and Mandy Patinkin. The adaptation is being helmed by showrunner Ronald D. Moore (Outlander).
Bautista recently wrapped filming on the Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill. Additionally, his sci-fi comedy Trap House is set to debut at upcoming autumn film festivals.
