Dave Bautista, the acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy star and former professional wrestler, is reportedly in negotiations to take on the lead role in Amazon MGM Studios’ highly anticipated God of War series, according to a report from Deadline.

Should negotiations prove successful, Bautista would step into the role of Kratos, succeeding Ryan Hurst. Hurst was forced to exit the production in mid-July following a severe biceps tendon injury. Filming for the live-action adaptation of the iconic video game franchise is slated to resume this autumn, with a projected debut on Prime Video expected no earlier than 2027 or 2028.

Set against the backdrop of Norse mythology, God of War follows the stoic protagonist Kratos and his son, Atreus (played by Callum Vinson), as they embark on a perilous journey to scatter the ashes of Kratos’ late wife. The series boasts a robust ensemble cast, including Teresa Palmer, Ed Skrein, and Mandy Patinkin, with development spearheaded by showrunner Ronald D. Moore (Outlander).

Bautista, who recently starred in the action-comedy The Killer’s Game, is also set to appear in the upcoming science fiction film Afterburn this fall.
