Dave Bautista Cast as Kratos in God of War Series as Filming Restarts
Dave Bautista has officially been cast as Kratos in the live-action God of War series from Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, Deadline reports. He steps in for Ryan Hurst, who departed the project after tearing his bicep and undergoing surgery that requires an extended recovery period.
The production team had already filmed four episodes with Hurst before the injury occurred, meaning production will now effectively restart. Pre-production will resume in August, with filming scheduled to get back underway on set in Vancouver in mid-October. Frederick E.O. Toye, who directed the first two episodes with Hurst, will reshoot those scenes with Bautista.

Bautista will have about two months to prepare before cameras roll again. The actor is well accustomed to demanding physical regimens from his years in professional wrestling and recently regained muscle mass for the upcoming Highlander reboot, which should smooth his transition into the role.
It remains unclear how much this production restart will affect the show’s overall release schedule. Amazon has not yet announced a premiere date for God of War.
