Danny Boyle used artificial intelligence in his new film “Inks”

Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle has confirmed that artificial intelligence played a role in the post-production of his latest biographical feature, Ink.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Boyle revealed that AI-generated footage accounts for approximately 30 seconds of the final cut. The technology was utilized to craft animated sequences featuring former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the notorious Kray twins.

Furthermore, AI was employed to animate mice scurrying through the newsroom of The Sun. Boyle noted that this approach was a more humane alternative to involving real animals. The director emphasized that when applied judiciously, artificial intelligence can serve as a highly effective tool for filmmakers.

Ink chronicles the rise of the tabloid The Sun and the partnership between its founder, media mogul Rupert Murdoch (Guy Pearce), and editor Larry Lamb (Jack O’Connell). The film served as the opening feature at this year’s Venice Film Festival, where it garnered favorable reviews from critics, currently holding an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 79 out of 100 on Metacritic.

The film is slated for release in Russia via Amediateka, with the specific premiere date to be announced shortly.
