Original franchise star Daniel Radcliffe has shared his thoughts on the casting for the highly anticipated HBO reboot series.
Radcliffe extended his best wishes to the show’s new lead, Dominic McLoughlin, suggesting that the young actor might even surpass his own portrayal of the iconic wizard.
“I’m certain Dominic will do a fantastic job—likely better than I did. I was essentially learning the craft as I went along. I look back on those years with much more affection now, and as I’ve grown older, the self-consciousness has faded. But it took a long time to really find my feet while filming Potter,” Radcliffe reflected in an interview with Screen Rant.
He also made a plea for the public to stop scrutinizing the new young actors so intensely:
“The moment these kids were cast, there was this global roar online with people saying, ‘We have to watch their every move.’ I really don’t want to be a lingering shadow in their lives; they should be allowed to just move forward and live. This is going to be a completely new interpretation of the story.”
McLoughlin is joined by Arabella Stanton, who will step into the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The new “Harry Potter” series is currently slated for a Spring 2027 debut on HBO.
