Dan Houser Left Rockstar Games Over Disagreements With His Brother — Rumor
According to GTA insider Tez2, a co‑founder of Rockstar Games left the studio in 2020 after disputes with his brother over the company’s direction.
Two former developers say he left because of disagreements with his brother over the studio’s direction. They add that if his exit had been driven by anti‑union actions or poor working conditions, he likely would have departed as early as 2018.
Houser’s departure was announced in February 2020, a couple of years after Red Dead Redemption 2 released. He contributed to several of Rockstar’s landmark titles, including Grand Theft Auto III, and has recently stated he had little involvement in scripting GTA VI.
In November 2025 Rockstar found itself at the center of controversy after the studio laid off 34 employees. The move drew criticism from staff and sparked protests by the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which demanded greater accountability from the company’s leadership.
