Dakota Johnson to Star in Marilyn Monroe Short Film

The 2026 Venice Film Festival will host the premiere of Flesh Impactflesh effectcarnal influence, a new short film exploring various chapters of Marilyn Monroe’s life. The project serves as a tribute to the legendary actress in honor of her centennial.

Dakota Johnson (known for the Fifty Shades trilogy) has been cast as one of the incarnations of Monroe. The film is directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who will concurrently serve on the jury for this year’s Venice competition.

Academy Award winner Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream) will portray Monroe in her later years; she is also set to receive an honorary Golden Lion at the festival for her lifetime achievements in cinema.

The ensemble cast for the short also features Peter Sarsgaard and Sepideh Moafi (the series The L Word: Generation Q). It remains unclear whether Flesh Impact will see a wider release on streaming platforms.

The 83rd Venice Film Festival is scheduled to take place in Italy from September 2 to September 12. As per tradition, the official lineup will be unveiled in late July.
