LEGO Daft Punk collaboration LEGO Group

The LEGO Group announced a partnership with the retired French duo Daft Punk on Thursday morning (Oct. 22). The deal grew out of a father-and-son LEGO set that recreates the duo’s Pyramid stage. The company said the collaboration aims to “inspire and remix fandoms” and promises “product, content and brand experiences” celebrating the creativity and communities of both brands.

The announcement came in a short film. In it, minifigures of the helmeted producers Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo follow a holographic red brick through a murky landscape until they reach the “gates of play,” which unlock a LEGO brick console. The teaser’s soundtrack uses the bass line from “Voyager,” from the 2001 album Discovery, along with the title track from the 2005 album Human After All.

“What makes this partnership so special is the enduring appeal both brands share. Like the LEGO brand, Daft Punk inspires generations through creativity, innovation and a deep connection with fans,” said LEGO Group chief product & marketing officer Julia Goldin in a statement about the partnership. “We’re excited to build on these foundations to reimagine the Daft Punk legacy in a fresh and unexpected way, creating something unique that resonates with fans across all ages. This is just the beginning of a bigger journey – a creative collab made for fans ready to lose themselves to play.”

The collaboration originated in the LEGO Ideas community, where fans submit original concepts that can become official LEGO products. A father and son from Luxembourg won the Grand Prize in the 2020 LEGO Ideas Music to Our Ears challenge, and fan support helped move their build toward becoming an official set.

Their submission, a recreation of the pyramid-shaped stage from the duo’s 2007 Alive tour, began as a family project during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, according to Patrick Harboun.

“This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building,” he said in a statement. “We never dared imagine it would take off in this way. Watching our passion project become part of an official collaboration is an incredible experience, and it’s a reminder of what makes the LEGO Ideas community so special. That a simple idea, shared by fans, really can become something much bigger.”

Besides the set, the partnership will bring Daft Punk to other LEGO tie-ins “through a mashup of surprising events and content that crosses music, culture and creative spaces,” according to the company.

More details about the collaboration are due in 2027. Cédric Hervet, creative director for Daft Punk, said the stage set is a fitting starting point. “The pyramid stage is one of the most recognizable expressions of Daft Punk’s visual world, so it feels fitting that this fan-created design will be center stage of this partnership,” he said. “Fans have always played an important part in Daft Punk’s story, and we are excited to see that creativity reflected through the LEGO universe.”
