Cult-favorite Star Citizen fan site closes — fans scramble to save beloved resource

It appears StarShip42 will not survive until the release of Star Citizen 1.0.

For nearly a decade the Star Citizen community has relied on StarShip42 — a fan-made ship database maintained by a single enthusiast.

Recently he reached out to supporters and announced the site’s impending closure:

“I launched StarShip42.com in 2016 as a modest hobby project — a way to explore, compare, and dream about the remarkable ships in Star Citizen. What started as a small late-night experiment grew far beyond my expectations thanks to the incredible passion and creativity of this community.

After many years of updates and friendships, I feel it’s time to close this chapter. Life has taken me in several wonderful directions, and I no longer have the time or energy required to maintain the site properly. StarShip42 will remain accessible until October 22, 2025, after which it will be permanently taken offline.”

The site’s creator isn’t saying goodbye — he plans to keep “flying among the stars,” and hinted that “one day StarShip42 might return in a different form.”

Several active members of the Star Citizen community are attempting to contact the creator to offer to take over maintenance of the resource.
