Critics dislike “Practical Magic 2”

The long-awaited sequel to the fantasy hit Practical Magic, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, has met with a tepid response from international critics.

The film currently holds a 38% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 45 out of 100 on Metacritic. Interestingly, these figures are quite consistent with the reception of the original 1998 film, which holds a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 48 on Metacritic.

Reviewers have criticized the sequel for its predictable plot, lackluster screenplay, and sluggish pacing. However, some critics acknowledged that the film manages to recapture the charm of the original, further bolstered by the undeniable on-screen chemistry between Bullock and Kidman.

The story once again centers on the Owens sisters and their daughters, Kylie and Antonia, as they grapple with the family’s persistent curse—which dictates that any man who falls in love with an Owens woman is destined to die.

The ensemble cast includes Joey King, Maisie Williams, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, and others. Directed by Susanne Bier (Bird Box), Practical Magic 2 hits international theaters this week.
