Critical Role CEO Teases That Season 5 Won’t Be the End for Vox Machina

As we reach the midpoint of The Legend of Vox Machina season 4, there is a bittersweet energy in the air. While fans are thrilled to watch Critical Role breathe life into the final chapter of their inaugural Campaign 1 arc, the announcement that the fifth season will serve as the grand finale looms large. Or, perhaps, that isn’t the whole story.

With the exception of the Aramán-based Campaign 4, every installment of Critical Role’s Dungeons & Dragons saga has unfolded within the sprawling world of Exandria. Each narrative cycle—from the debut of Vox Machina to the Mighty Nein and the Bells Hells—tells the tale of a distinct group of adventurers. Consequently, it has long been assumed that the show’s fifth outing would mark the definitive end of this specific party’s journey.

However, when Polygon caught up with executive producer and voice of Grog Strongjaw, Travis Willingham, he hinted that this band of lovable misfits might not be disappearing from our screens quite yet. He teased the distinct possibility that our favorite heroes could make guest appearances in future projects.

“There is always a possibility for characters to surface in stories or campaigns where they didn’t originally appear,” Willingham explained. “That’s the beauty of being in a position to pull the strings and reshape the narrative, so I would certainly say that such crossovers are very much on the table.”

Narrative cameos are already woven into the fabric of the show’s adaptation process. Season 3, for instance, introduced Zerxus Ilerez—the enigmatic collector from Exandria Unlimited: Calamity—into the fold. Similarly, we’ve seen cross-pollination like Sam Riegel’s Braius Doomseed making the leap to The Mighty Nein.

Given the cast’s history of guest spots in various one-shots and campaigns, the potential for future spin-offs remains high. With a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and undying fan demand, it seems highly unlikely that we have truly seen the last of Tal’Dorei’s legendary champions once season 5 closes its chapter.
