Producers at Amazon MGM, together with director Denis Villeneuve on the forthcoming James Bond film, are grappling with a thorny issue that emerged while developing the next chapter in the British agent’s story. The complication stems from the previous movie, No Time to Die, in which the hero was unambiguously killed — depicted as being literally torn apart. How to stage a believable on-screen return for him remains unresolved.
A source close to the new Bond creative team confided that the writers are at their wits’ end, given how problematic the situation has become. The earlier choice to kill off the iconic character drew repeated criticism, notably because it makes a logical continuation of stories centering on him difficult.
It’s possible the filmmakers will simply present audiences with a new James Bond, effectively disregarding the previous film’s finale.
