Cosplayer Alexey “Aoki” Kochetkov has showcased what Astarion was doing on the eve of the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, offering fans another detailed look at the vampire spawn infected by an illithid parasite.

Working with photographer Kira Mitenkova alongside models Natasha “Narga” Kochetkova, Artyom “Nova” Spivachenko, and Kristina Rein, Kochetkov depicted Astarion’s tavern exploits before his capture aboard the mind flayer ship, as well as the aftermath on the beach following the nautiloid’s crash.

Astarion is a high elf who spent centuries as a vampire spawn under the control of Cazador, the patriarch of the influential Szarr family. His existence changed completely after mind flayers abducted him. The tadpole implanted in his brain granted him immunity to sunlight and broke his master’s absolute command over him.

Astarion carries a refined appearance that reflects his aristocratic background, featuring pale skin, red eyes, and curly white hair. Two vampire bite scars mark his neck, with sharp fangs occasionally visible beneath his lips.

An Infernal poem carved into his back remains a key story element and a reminder of his enslavement. The character’s personality mixes selfishness and biting humor with deep trauma.

Astarion frequently conceals fear and vulnerability beneath arrogance, flirtation, and ostentatious hedonism. He often approves of ruthless, chaotic, or self-serving choices by the player after years of living under ruthless dominance. Over time, he can also develop into a loyal companion who searches for safety and genuine affection.
