It has been a while since we spotlighted a member of our incredible community, and today we are thrilled to share an inspiring journey. Meet Arda from Türkiye, a dedicated fan of Euro Truck Simulator 2, who successfully transitioned his virtual trucking hobby into a professional career, earning his real-world heavy vehicle license.

What began as a passion for the open road within the digital world has blossomed into a full-fledged profession. Since diving into ETS2 in 2025, Arda found the experience so compelling that it motivated him to pursue the life of a commercial truck driver.
“ETS2 enjoys immense popularity here in Türkiye, boasting a vibrant and passionate community,” Arda explains. “I’ve always had a soft spot for simulations, and I was immediately hooked. What truly captivated me was the level of detail—the authentic traffic laws, realistic weather systems, and the precision of the vehicle models. It felt less like a game and more like a genuine journey across Europe. The engine audio is remarkably true-to-life, providing the perfect escape from the stresses of daily routine.”

With no previous trucking background, Arda initially explored the single-player experience until he discovered the Driving Academy. That was the turning point.
“I realized this was exactly the challenge I had been looking for. I committed to earning my license that very day. I spent countless late nights in the Academy, pushing myself to navigate scenarios using only the first-person cockpit view. Those final challenges were grueling—sometimes staying up until 3:00 AM just to nail a single maneuver. The frustration was real, but the sense of accomplishment when I finally succeeded was unmatched.”
As he deepened his practice, Arda’s enthusiasm for real-world trucking grew. He eventually enrolled in a professional driver training program, where his persistence paid off.

“The skills I honed in ETS2, particularly through the Driving Academy, were invaluable,” Arda noted. “Reverse maneuvers and handling a trailer are vastly different from driving a standard car. Having that muscle memory from the game made the technical aspects of my lessons much more intuitive. I told my instructors that the simulation gave me a distinct edge over many of the other trainees, as I could already visualize the physics of the trailer.”
Arda’s story mirrors many others we have heard over the years, and we couldn’t be prouder of the role our software played in his career path. He estimates that having that foundational knowledge helped him grasp complex concepts—like spatial awareness and steering inputs—much faster than his peers.

“In the game, I constantly checked my mirrors and leaned out the window to gauge my positioning,” he explains. “When I sat in a real truck, those habits translated perfectly. The ‘L-reverse’ parking maneuver is a test of nerves in reality, but because of my hours in the simulator, I approached it with the calm of a seasoned driver. I knew exactly when to adjust the wheel and how to manage the trailer’s pivot point.”
While he now holds his license, Arda is currently in the final stages of obtaining the necessary international freight certifications to begin his professional life on the road.

Reflecting on his new reality, Arda shares a message for those considering a similar path: “The comfort of a modern truck cabin is something you have to experience to believe. The commanding view of the road and that sense of power and safety—it’s a feeling I used to try to capture in-game, but in real life, it’s truly magical.”
We want to thank Arda for sharing his inspiring journey with us. Safe travels on the roads ahead!
