Claire Danes to Replace Kate Winslet in Series About Fatal Crash

Homeland star Claire Danes will headline a new drama series for the streaming service Hulu titled The Spot.

The lead role was originally assigned to Kate Winslet, but she exited the project in June amid creative differences. This isn’t the first time Danes and Winslet have been linked to the same part: in the late 1990s Danes was reportedly offered the role of Rose in Titanic but declined, and Winslet ultimately took the part.

Danes will be joined by Ewan McGregor. The story follows a successful neurosurgeon (Danes) who is accused in a deadly hit-and-run: she’s alleged to have struck a child with her car and fled the scene. At the same time, her relationship with her husband, a schoolteacher (McGregor), intensifies into conflict.

The Spot is created by Ed Solomon (Men in Black, Closed Circle) and produced by A24. Filming is scheduled for 2026.

Danes will also appear in the Netflix miniseries The Beast Within, due to premiere in November.
