It’s hard to stay modest when your indie debut is the clear frontrunner for Game of the Year 2025. Expedition 33 dominated this year’s Golden Joystick Awards, claiming seven prizes — including Ultimate Game of the Year — and many commentators expect it to enjoy a similarly strong showing at The Game Awards.

Ben Starr, who plays Verso in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, said the RPG has an “unapologetic vision” — and that its frank, sincere approach is a big part of why the game resonated with players.
