The developers are preparing new gameplay mechanics and content.

Developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K recently announced a free update and the first expansion for the global 4X strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, titled Earthrise.

Update 1.5.0 for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is scheduled for release this month. It will introduce maps with historically accurate starting locations for various nations, overhaul the interface and diplomacy, and speed up and improve the map generator.

The free “Arc of Tomorrow” update is planned for release in 2027. It will add the Atomic Age to the game, a new fourth era that extends the game’s timeline from the 1950s to the 2050s. The developers intend to expand nuclear-related gameplay, allow players to turn their own settlements into new city-states, and introduce new civilizations and leaders with details to be shared later.

The Earthrise expansion will add new gameplay systems, content, civilizations, and leaders, focusing heavily on space:

During the Antiquity and Exploration eras, study celestial bodies and turn your knowledge of space into a strategic advantage. With the advent of the Modern and Atomic eras, help humanity take its first steps beyond the atmosphere by establishing a space agency, launching missions into the Solar System, and exploring nearby moons and planets. Each successful mission reveals planetary features and untapped resources, driving the growth of your civilization on Earth.

Players can add the Earthrise expansion for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII to their Steam wishlist using this link. The developers have not yet specified a concrete release date or release window for the DLC.

Earlier this month, the developers of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII launched a new promotion allowing Steam users to try the project for free.
