Popular Gacha Game Developers Anger Players With 20 Pulls as Compensation for Computer Infections
The developers of Goddess of Victory: NIKKE have apologized after the game’s launcher distributed malicious code that infected users’ computers for about a week.
The creators of the PC version confirmed that the launcher distributed code added by outsiders from October 27 to November 4. The Korean team has promised to strengthen security.
The game client now has a tool that checks files for malicious code at startup and notifies users if it detects unauthorized changes. The developers say the launcher is now fully secure and free of malicious components.
The official website has also published instructions for anyone who launched the game between October 27 and November 4. The developers recommend changing all passwords, API keys, and access tokens players used.
As compensation, the developers are offering affected players 20 free pulls in the gacha system. Many users consider the reward wholly disproportionate to what happened.
