Massive Effect: The BioWare Story

A documentary about Canadian studio BioWare will cover its final days after Electronic Arts abruptly closed the studio in October 2026. The project was originally conceived as a story about the rise of one of the game industry’s best-known studios.

According to Deadline, the documentary is being made for Canadian television channel Super Channel. Its representatives said they were especially proud to tell BioWare’s story because the company is also based in Edmonton. The film will focus on the people, creativity and innovative approach to storytelling behind several franchises beloved by players.

BioWare founders Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and Augustine Yip will appear in the film, along with developers who worked on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Confirmed participants from the Mass Effect team include writer Drew Karpyshyn, former studio head Aaryn Flynn and Mac Walters. David Gaider and James Ohlen will appear from the Dragon Age team. Actress Jennifer Hale, who voiced Commander Shepard, and voice director Caroline Livingstone will also share their memories.

It is not yet known whether several other prominent BioWare writers will appear, including Trick Weekes, Jennifer Hepler, Sheryl Chee, Mary Kirby and Lukas Kristjanson. They made significant contributions to many of the studio’s memorable characters.

Massive Effect: The BioWare Story is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
