Extremely OK Games—the studio formerly known as Maddy Makes Games, renowned for the 2018 masterpiece Celeste—has pulled back the curtain on their next major project. Titled City of None, this upcoming metroidvania platformer is slated for release in 2027. The title is being crafted by Celeste co-creator Noel Berry alongside his brother, Liam Berry, and puts players in the shoes of a unique wooden protagonist navigating the sprawling, five-sector landscape of a surreal metropolis.
Throughout your journey, you will travel between these distinct districts by train, traversing intricate paths, befriending local denizens, and challenging a host of formidable adversaries. While the fluid movement mechanics may feel familiar to fans of Celeste, City of None carves out its own identity with a deliberately retro aesthetic characterized by a muted color palette and a lo-fi visual style. The atmospheric design and audio work already show immense promise, making this one of our most anticipated titles for the coming year.
You can watch the official reveal trailer for City of None below:
According to the official Steam page, the game invites players to “adventure through a metropolis filled with strange spirits, wicked beasts, ferocious robots, and more than one friend as you wrest life – and the city’s future – back from the grip of ravenous Barons.” Beyond the narrative stakes, the gameplay promises a deep progression system, with various hidden items and power-ups that expand your traversal abilities as you explore deeper into the city.
City of None is currently scheduled to arrive on PC via Steam in 2027. If you missed it, be sure to look back at our original review of Celeste to see where this talented team started.
