Christopher Nolan Rumored to Direct New Star Wars Film After Meeting George Lucas

Christopher Nolan and George Lucas met at the grand opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, coinciding with rumors regarding the director of the franchise’s next trilogy.

Christopher Nolan and George Lucas met at the grand opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. The joint appearance of the two directors caught the attention of Star Wars fans, with some calling on Lucasfilm to entrust Nolan with a new film or even an entire trilogy.

Journalist Caleb Williams fueled the discussion by reporting around the same time that Lucasfilm has already found a director for the next Star Wars trilogy, which features a script by Simon Kinberg.

However, there is no reason to believe that Nolan is that director. He has not worked with outside franchises for 14 years, and hundreds of film industry representatives attended the museum opening, including Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Greta Gerwig, and numerous Hollywood actors.

Furthermore, following the exhausting production of Oppenheimer, Nolan stated that he plans to take a break. This aligns poorly with Williams’ report that filming for the new trilogy could begin as early as 2027.

The franchise’s upcoming major releases include the second season of Ahsoka and Shawn Levy’s film Star Wars: Starfighter starring Ryan Gosling, which is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.
