Chinese WWII Shooter The Defiant Gets New Trailer

Developer Hoothanes has released a new trailer for The Defiant, a fast-paced World War II first-person shooter set in China. The footage highlights 1942 skirmishes along the Futuya section of the Great Wall, where resistance fighters clash against overwhelming enemy forces.

The story focuses on a squad of soldiers from the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army operating in the snow-covered forests of northeastern China. Players will also fight through the streets and alleys of occupied cities that have been turned into fortified enemy strongholds. The studio emphasizes a grim, tense tone to convey the harsh realities and tragic toll of the War of Resistance.

The arsenal in The Defiant features authentic weapons from the era, including the Hanyang 88 rifle, the Mauser C96 pistol, and the SIG Bergmann Model 1920. While players will frequently rely on their firepower in direct firefights, head-on combat is not the only obstacle.

Hoothanes noted that searchlights will monitor nearly every environment. Enemy troops use them to spot any sign of insurgent movement, requiring players to stay mindful of their surroundings and choose the right moment to strike.

The creators describe The Defiant as an anthology of stories connected by a shared history of the war, calling it “a collective memory waiting to be reawakened.”

The Defiant does not have a confirmed release date yet. The game is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
