Channing Tatum, the star of the Magic Mike trilogy, is set to headline Later the War, the latest feature film from Academy Award-winning writer and director Charlie Kaufman, known for his work on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I’m Thinking of Ending Things.
Tatum replaces Eddie Redmayne, who was originally attached to the lead role last year. The ensemble cast will also feature Tessa Thompson and Patsy Ferran. The film is adapted from Iddo Gefen’s 2021 short story, Debbie’s Dream House.
The story follows Pickman (Tatum), a prominent Hollywood actor and director navigating a profound creative impasse. Seeking to pivot away from the realm of blockbusters and comedies, he attempts to pivot toward producing a somber Holocaust drama. His life takes an unexpected turn after he strikes up an acquaintance with a mysterious poet named Debbie (Ferran).
Production is scheduled to commence in Cyprus in 2027, with no official release date announced yet. Tatum recently appeared in Roofman and the acclaimed indie drama Josephine, which secured a top prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
