Casino Royale Returning to Theaters in October
No single character has impacted popular culture quite like James Bond. The super spy’s stories have been told throughout Ian Fleming’s original novels, movies starring the likes of Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery, video games like 007 First Light, and so much more. After Daniel Craig stepped away from playing Bond in the 2021 film No Time to Die, audiences have been eager to see where the franchise is going next. In the meantime, viewers will soon have a chance to revisit one of Craig’s most beloved films.
Casino Royale, the first film that starred Craig as James Bond, is returning to theaters in October of 2026. The re-release is tied to the twentieth anniversary of the film’s debut, after it first opened in theaters on November 17, 2006. Amazon MGM Studios announced the news with a new poster of Craig’s Bond, who is reaching for his gun while seated at a poker table.
Directed by Martin Campbell and based on the first of Fleming’s novels, Casino Royale follows a Bond in the early stages of his career as he targets Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen, a war profiteer who is gearing up to play poker at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. The cast of the film also included Eva Green as Vesper Lynd, Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter, and Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis. Judi Dench reprised her role of M, which she had previously played during Brosnan’s Bond films.

Prior to the 2006 film, the story of Casino Royale had been told onscreen in a number of different ways. It was adapted into a 1954 episode of the anthology television show Climax!, starring Barry Nelson as an Americanized version of James Bond. Nearly a decade later, film producer Charles K. Feldman bought the movie rights to the novel, but reached a disagreement with Albert Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, who were trying to adapt the rest of the Bond books through their Eon Productions company. Feldman’s version of Casino Royale became a reality by 1967 as a parody of the existing Bond iconography, starring David Niven in the lead role.
The Casino Royale re-release arrives as Amazon MGM Studios gears up to reboot the James Bond franchise with the upcoming 26th film. Dune and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve has been attached to direct the film since the summer of 2025, but a new actor has not been publicly announced as Bond yet.
