Amazon Developing New Stargate Series with WandaVision Creator
A previous series developed by Martin Gero was canceled over concerns that it would turn out too niche.
According to Variety, WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer is developing a new Stargate series for Amazon MGM Studios. The project falls under an agreement that the writer signed with the studio earlier this year. A writers’ room is planned to be assembled in the near future, and Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures will serve as executive producers alongside Schaeffer.
This marks Amazon’s second attempt to bring Stargate back to screens. The new series was previously handled by franchise veteran Martin Gero, but his project was canceled in June 2026. As Variety reported at the time, Amazon executives considered his proposed version too niche, fearing that a show carefully preserving the canon of the original programs would appeal only to dedicated fans and fail to attract a broad audience.
Consulting producer Joe Mallozzi later disputed that version of events, stating that the creators intended to reach a broad audience from the very beginning. However, Amazon management apparently held a different view.

Plot details, the cast, and the release window for the new series have not yet been disclosed.
