Capcom Reportedly Developing Crossover Between New Resident Evil Games and Classic Remakes

Capcom has spent several years preparing to tie the story branches of the Resident Evil series together.

Capcom continues to develop the Resident Evil franchise in two directions by releasing new numbered entries that advance the overarching story and remakes of classic games. Executive Producer Jun Takeuchi states that this approach serves a larger goal, as the two branches of the series must eventually intersect in the future.

As GamesRadar reports, Takeuchi told a Japanese publication that Capcom has spent several years laying the groundwork for a crossover between the modern games and the remakes. The producer notes that work on this concept has been underway gradually since the release of Resident Evil Village in 2021.

Right now, Resident Evil is developing in two directions: numbered games allow players to follow the ongoing drama of the series, while remakes provide the opportunity to experience events of the past.

Capcom understands that the remakes could catch up to the timeline of the numbered games at a certain point. The company is already designing mechanisms that will unite these two parts of the franchise.

Takeuchi notes that preparation for this process is already visible in recent games. He specifically mentions the return of elements such as Umbrella and Spencer, as well as the reappearance of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem. The producer states that all of this is part of the preparation for a future intersection of the storylines.
