Call of Duty: Warzone gets a new map, but not all fans are thrilled

To pave the way for the “Avalon” expansion, developers have officially vaulted the iconic “Verdansk” map.

Call of Duty: Warzone has introduced a new battleground named “Avalon,” though its low-key debut has already sparked significant debate among the player base. The update’s arrival coincided with the removal of “Verdansk,” a decision that proved to be an unwelcome surprise for a large portion of the community.

This new map draws its foundations from the latest Black Ops installment, serving as a modern evolution of the classic “Blackout” terrain first seen in 2018’s Black Ops 4. Despite the ambitious vision, initial feedback has been polarizing, with many early reviews leaning toward the negative.

A primary source of player frustration is the temporary suspension of all other Warzone modes. Currently, the game only offers the Black Ops Royale playlist featuring Avalon, leaving those uninterested in the new map with no alternative ways to play.

Gameplay has also shifted significantly with the absence of traditional Loadouts. Instead, participants must rely entirely on scavenging weapons and equipment from the environment. Some users have compared this stripped-back experience to a hybrid of Fortnite and the REDSEC mode.

The lobby capacity has also come under fire after being reduced to 100 players. Critics argue that because the map remains quite expansive, the lower player count results in erratic pacing and fewer combat encounters, making the matches feel sparse and drawn out.
