The producer of the upcoming BioShock film adaptation has finally provided an update after a lengthy period of silence. According to Roy Lee, director Francis Lawrence is scheduled to begin work on the project once he concludes post-production on the dystopian prequel The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
Production was originally intended to start sooner, but Lawrence’s packed schedule led to multiple delays. Between his commitment to The Long Walk and his work on the latest Hunger Games installment, the timeline for the BioShock project was repeatedly shifted.
Fortunately, Lawrence is expected to fully immerse himself in the BioShock universe starting next year. Principal photography is currently slated for early 2027, with the film likely targeting a 2028 release window.
The adaptation is expected to stay true to the game’s signature atmosphere and established lore. The narrative unfolds in a crumbling underwater metropolis, a world devastated by the catastrophic consequences of radical genetic experimentation.
