Baldur’s Gate 3 Shows Only a Tiny Fragment of the City — The Real Baldur’s Gate Is Bigger Than It Seems
In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are shown only a small section of Baldur’s Gate — and the omission is not limited to the Upper City.
Although the game advertises a vast, richly detailed world, many players feel the portion of the city on display leaves a sense of incompleteness. Initial impressions are favorable: Larian Studios clearly invested effort into the finer details to give a convincing portrayal of Baldur’s Gate.
However, a fan demonstration revealed that players actually traverse only a fragment of the sprawling metropolis, which still contains many unexplored districts and landmarks. One user, Doxorn, highlighted in red on a map just how little of the location is accessible. It’s apparent that a large portion of the city remains out of reach, though he concedes that rendering the entire city at the same level of detail would have been a monumental challenge.
Baldur’s Gate is expansive enough to serve as the foundation for an entirely new title in the series. In Baldur’s Gate 3, the developers concentrated on select neighborhoods for Act Three while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship and detail. Perhaps a future release—or a large-scale mod—will present Baldur’s Gate in its full glory. For now, players can enjoy the richly realized segments that the game offers.
