Microsoft Helped Valve Improve Controller Support in Steam
The Steam Client Beta has added support for Microsoft’s GameInput 4.0, which expands controller capabilities.
Valve continues to improve controller support in Steam. The new API version processes additional signals and features from modern devices. Specifically, GameInput 4.0 supports backlighting, touch controls, and new button and axis labels. The update also improves rumble performance on devices using the HID standard and command processing in remote access applications.
At the same time, the Nintendo Switch Pro controller was already supported by Steam, so this does not mark the introduction of compatibility from scratch.

The update also speeds up connections via Steam Remote Play, fixes input transmission for the Steam Controller, and resolves a Linux client crash after a device wakes from sleep mode. Valve has not yet announced when these changes will roll out to the stable version of Steam.
