Activision Reportedly Prepares Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Return Following New Classification Discovery
The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 may return to modern platforms with improved graphics and multiplayer, as hinted by a new classification for the game in Australia.
The Australian Classification Board issued a new rating for Modern Warfare 2, which was released 17 years ago. Specific platforms are not listed, with the project designated simply as a “computer game.” Such documents frequently appear shortly before official announcements.
The situation resembles the recent classification of the first two installments of Call of Duty: Black Ops, after which Activision released versions of them for modern consoles. Those were not full remakes or remasters, but ports with some enhancements for PS5 and PS4.

The campaign of Modern Warfare 2 already received an update in 2020, and the original multiplayer was not included in that re-release. The new classification mentions online interaction and chat, which may indicate the return of the multiplayer mode.
