Call of Duty Returns to Nintendo After 13 Years With Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2
A game that Nintendo awaited for more than a decade has launched on Switch 2 with a dynamic resolution ranging from 360p to 720p in the campaign and a 40 FPS mode for 120 Hz displays.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 and delivers respectable performance, running the campaign at 30 FPS and multiplayer at 60 FPS with occasional drops to 50 frames.
This is the first entry in the series on Nintendo consoles in 13 years. Following its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft promised to provide Call of Duty with ten years of platform support for the Japanese company’s devices.
Previously, Black Ops II and Ghosts posted weak results on the Wii U, after which Activision stopped releasing games in the series for Nintendo hardware. Now, the partnership has resumed.
The game looks quite decent on Switch 2, although it falls well short of the quality found in the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. In the campaign, a stable 30 FPS is achieved through a dynamic resolution that scales between 360p and 720p. In handheld mode, it can drop as low as 360p.
Multiplayer runs at 60 FPS, although intense 6v6 matches experience drops to 50 frames. Connecting a 120 Hz display unlocks a 40 FPS mode.
