Fresh off the monumental success of 2023’s Baldur’s Gate III, Larian Studios used the stage at The Game Awards to pull back the curtain on their next grand odyssey. Simply titled Divinity, this upcoming role-playing epic aims to eclipse the staggering scale of the studio’s previous work. The announcement was punctuated by a visceral cinematic trailer featuring a bacchanalian festival of excess and occult imagery. The revelry takes a dark, sacrificial turn as a victim is immolated within a colossal wicker effigy, his remains gruesomely crystallizing into a monolith known as The Hellstone.
Divinity – Official Cinematic Reveal Trailer
This project marks a significant homecoming for Larian as they return to their proprietary intellectual property. The shift follows the studio’s previously confirmed departure from the Dungeons & Dragons license and Wizards of the Coast. Expectations are sky-high, as the series’ last major entry, Divinity: Original Sin 2, was hailed upon its 2017 release as a landmark achievement and one of the most sophisticated role-playing experiences in gaming history.
