Modders Release Two Unofficial PC Ports of 2005’s God of War
Sony never released PC versions of the franchise’s older installments.
While the recent entries God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok officially made their way to PC, some players wanted to experience Kratos’ classic adventures.
Enthusiasts have gradually been porting PlayStation games using artificial intelligence capabilities. Two ports of the original God of War (2005), which was released on the PlayStation 2 console, were recently introduced.
Modders explained that the game does not run through an emulator, as it is a native (unofficial) PC port of God of War.
Vnnc1 introduced “gow-native-pc”. According to the creator, the current version generally works, but optimization is still needed since God of War does not run at a stable 60 FPS and drops can occur in certain scenes.

danielalves96, who created the “gow-pc-port” project, clarified a technical detail: the game logic of God of War is tied to 60 Hz, so the gameplay is capped at 60 FPS, while the window can operate at a refresh rate of 60, 120, or 144 Hz.
Developers Vnnc1 and danielalves96 published the source code for “gow-native-pc” and “gow-pc-port” publicly on GitHub. As usual, copyrighted assets were not included in the archive.
