Backrooms Director Reveals Future Plans for Horror Series
In a strong year for horror cinema, Backrooms emerged as a surprising hit. Kane Parsons directed the feature-film debut, adapting his viral YouTube series for the big screen to critical and box office success. After YouTube and film, the director has a clear vision for the story and revealed his dream scenario for the next chapter.
Speaking to Deadline, Parsons explained that he always planned the overarching narrative beyond the movie. “There’s been a very set arc to the whole thing from the beginning,” the director said. He added that he feels “absurdly excited at the idea of actually being able to follow through on all of it.” Regarding the format, Parsons stated that “the dream scenario would be a limited series for Backrooms to get to the main ending.”
Parsons did not confirm whether the series is actively in development and avoided sharing specific details about his current schedule. He noted, “There’s a few things that I would love to talk about when I can soon.” Backrooms will return in some capacity after breaking box office records. It achieved the highest opening weekend ever for an A24 movie and made Parsons the youngest director with a number one film at the box office.

Will there be a Backrooms 2?
Television may be next, but another film could also be in production. Dread Central reported this September that a sequel to Backrooms is in the works with Parsons returning to direct.

Both projects might happen concurrently. Parsons previously told Variety that he had not finished with the series and intended to take it “outside the confines of this film.” Alternatively, the limited series could arrive further in the future. Parsons mentioned that the series would conclude his planned story arc, and there is currently no rush to capitalize on the Backrooms hype.
