Reports Indicate Widespread PS5 Hacking Posing Major Issue for Sony

Over the past week, a PlayStation 5 jailbreak covering firmware versions 7.00 through 13.60 has rapidly grown into a widespread phenomenon.

The PS5 received a major jailbreak working on firmware versions from 7.00 to 13.60, enabling modders to run emulators on the console and significantly accelerating the progress of the exploit over the past week.

Firmware 13.60 was released in July, meaning the new exploit works on the majority of consoles that do not have the latest system version installed. At the same time, modern games such as Marvel’s Wolverine require newer firmware and remain unavailable.

Using AI tools, modders have already run emulators for various consoles on the PS5, ranging from the Switch to the original Xbox. Due to this, demand for consoles with the appropriate firmware has increased, and the GameStop chain has begun selling used PS5 Pro consoles for up to $1,500.

In parallel, the emulation of the PS5 itself on PC is developing rapidly, with modders already managing to launch several exclusives, including Demon’s Souls.

In the coming weeks, Sony will likely tighten security with new updates, although this will not fix vulnerabilities on older firmware. The pace at which the exploit is developing could become a serious problem for the company.
