Avengers: Endgame Re-Release Extra Footage Runtime Revealed

Marvel is bringing Avengers: Endgame back to theaters ahead of the premiere of Avengers: Doomsday this December, though not on IMAX screens. The rerelease, titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, adds new material designed to connect the 2019 crossover with the upcoming fifth Avengers film.

According to listings on AMC Theatres, Avengers: Endgame Encore runs for 185 minutes, or three hours and five minutes. The original theatrical cut clocked in at 181 minutes, meaning the rerelease includes four minutes of additional footage. The expanded runtime makes the presentation the longest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date.

The extra scenes were filmed during production on Avengers: Doomsday to establish direct narrative links between the two stories. Director Joe Russo said previously that returning the 2019 film to cinemas was “critically important.”

“You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money,” Russo said, “so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It’s a really unique opportunity.”

Marvel has not detailed what the extra four minutes contain beyond the connection to Doomsday. The footage could potentially feature Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, whose return appeared in promotional trailers for Doomsday after he departed the franchise at the conclusion of Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame Encore hits theaters on Sept. 25. Avengers: Doomsday arrives in cinemas on Dec. 18.
