Insidious: Out of the Further production still

The sixth Insidious film has moved from a completed-production update to a titled, dated release. Sony Pictures now calls it Insidious: Out of the Further and has scheduled the supernatural horror film for theaters on August 21, 2026.

What Out of the Further is about

The new story centers on Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house where she grew up. Gemma discovers that she can enter the Further, the purgatorial realm that connects the franchise’s hauntings and lost souls.

Her ability develops in a dangerous direction: she can bring beings from the Further back into the physical world. Once the entities understand what she can do, the threat extends beyond Gemma and her family. Sony presents the film around a new household rather than another chapter focused on the Lambert family.

Cast

Amelia Eve plays Gemma, with Brandon Perea in the new ensemble. Lin Shaye returns as paranormal investigator Elise Rainier, preserving a direct character link to the earlier films. The wider announced cast includes Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell and Laura Gordon.

Director and filmmakers

Jacob Chase directed the film and wrote the screenplay. The story is credited to Chase and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, based on characters created by Leigh Whannell. Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan and Whannell are the producers.

The project continues the theatrical series after Insidious: The Red Door, but its new protagonist and house make it possible to follow the central conflict without assuming that Patrick Wilson or Rose Byrne will return.

Release date and trailer

Insidious: Out of the Further opens exclusively in theaters on August 21, 2026. Sony Pictures Entertainment has released an official trailer and ticket information. As of August 14, no digital purchase, disc or streaming date has been announced, so later availability claims would be premature.
