Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s forthcoming series will belong to the shared canon, rather than being another standalone reinterpretation.
Story Kitchen’s website specifies that the project Phoebe Waller-Bridge is developing for Amazon will form part of an “ambitious reimagining of the Lara Croft universe” and intends to “bring the games and the television project together into a single narrative universe.”
This suggests the Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner and the next installment in the game franchise, currently in development at Crystal Dynamics, could be narratively linked. The statement, however, doesn’t clarify whether it refers to future titles or existing releases—no specific entries are mentioned.
Production on the series is scheduled to begin in early 2026. Meanwhile, Crystal Dynamics has endured a challenging period: in November the studio carried out its third round of layoffs for 2025, though it promised it would “soon share impressive results” from its work. It appears fans of Lara Croft’s adventures will need to remain patient.
