Alternate-Soviet shooter You Are Empty coming to Steam with improvements after 20 years
Publisher Strategy First is bringing back the classic shooter You Are Empty with an updated PC release titled You Are Empty: Absolute Edition.
The updated release is adapted for modern systems and will be available on Steam and the ZOOM Platform. The game takes place in an alternate 1950s timeline: “Most of the city’s population has mysteriously disappeared, and creepy monsters roam the abandoned streets. Can you uncover the cause of the catastrophe and put everything right?”
You Are Empty: Absolute Edition includes various technical improvements along with Steam achievements:
- Support for modern and classic controllers with three selectable presets using SDL
- Loading times reduced by approximately 800%, along with fixes for visual bugs and crashes
- Full support for modern resolutions and game code adapted for widescreen displays
- User interface elements, menus, weapon models, and video cutscenes no longer stretch and now scale to any resolution
- Support for up to 8x MSAA and up to 16x anisotropic filtering
- Frame rate configuration settings
- Reduced camera shake
The developers also added a sprint option. They noted that the original campaign was not designed around sprinting, cautioning that “enabling this option may make the game’s pacing feel unusual in certain areas.”

Players can add You Are Empty: Absolute Edition to their Steam wishlist now. The release date is scheduled for October 26, 2026.
