After 19 Years, Strategy Game “Wars of Antiquity: Sparta” Gets HD Remaster — Free Version Released on Steam

The original Ancient Wars: Sparta is back.

The full release of the strategy title Ancient Wars: Sparta — Definitive Edition is steadily approaching. Yet some fans asked for the classic version to return.

The developer listened to players requesting “that very” edition of Ancient Wars: Sparta — and, after two and a half years of work, released Ancient Wars: Sparta HD on Steam as a free offering.

He explained that the project was originally intended as a separate mode inside Sparta DE, but technical limitations led to the decision to launch it as a standalone game:

I want everyone to be able to enjoy this game regardless of their financial means. Yes, I may forgo some revenue, but I’m not driven by money — I’m driven by a wish to revive a genre that was once great… and will be great again. Naturally, I must earn a living and continue development, so the complete version won’t be entirely free. However, no one will be required to pay — only those who choose to support the project. Owners of Ancient Wars: Sparta Definitive Edition will receive a special discount.

The Ancient Wars: Sparta HD page on Steam is available here.

The developer also announced a new title, Ancient Wars: History Edition, which will be available free to owners of Sparta Definitive Edition and Medieval Crusades.

This title will merge all content from both games into a single project, introducing unique features and fresh material. It will serve as the culmination of the entire Ancient Wars universe.
