Marathon

A post shared by Alberto Mielgo (@albertomielgo)

Mielgo suggested the issue stemmed from an accidental reuse of a texture and some typographic elements that became muddled within a large, complex creative pipeline. He described the matter as “genuinely a mistake” and criticized how the story was amplified by sensationalist coverage. He closed his remarks by praising Bungie and the team’s creative efforts.

“The Bungie team is exceptional, and the work they produced before our collaboration was remarkable,” he wrote, adding that he enjoyed working with the studio.

Bungie previously acknowledged the oversight when Hook raised the claim, apologized to the indie artist, and said it would address the issue. With the project having faced delays and other setbacks, many are hoping Marathon’s path forward becomes smoother and that the game reaches players in a timely way.

Former Bungie director says they spent time on Marathon “trying to coin a new genre name” because an extraction shooter’s label is “one of the few genres where the name describes a game mechanic.”
