During the recent Minecraft Live event at TwitchCon Europe, Mojang officially pulled the curtain back on the sequel to A Minecraft Movie, revealing its title: A Minecraft Movie Squared.

The title is a playful nod to the game’s iconic blocky aesthetic. Along with the announcement, Mojang shared a behind-the-scenes look at the production. The footage features stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and Danielle Brooks discussing their time filming in New Zealand, hinting at the inclusion of new biomes and creatures from the core game. Additionally, newcomers Matt Berry and Kirsten Dunst were officially welcomed to the ensemble cast.

To celebrate the reveal, Mojang has launched an exciting build challenge. Fans have until June 8 to submit their own creative builds for a chance to have their work featured in the sequel. While only the grand prize winner will see their creation in the final cut, other finalists will be treated to exclusive private screenings. Furthermore, viewers can unlock a special builder cape cosmetic by tuning into Minecraft streams on Twitch or TikTok before June 14. A Minecraft Movie Squared is slated to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.

The title reveal was the centerpiece of the presentation, but it wasn’t the only news. Mojang also detailed upcoming game content, including the “Chaos Cubed” update launching June 16, which introduces a sulfur cave biome and a unique sulfur cube mob. Later this year, a “Drop 3” update will expand the world further with the addition of a dappled forest biome.

The Minecraft Dungeons 2 team also offered a glimpse at concept art for new environments and the menacing Twisted Warden boss. Though gameplay footage remains under wraps, the title is currently on track for a 2026 launch. In related merchandise news, the Twisted Warden is receiving its own Lego set, and players can look forward to new Lego-themed chicken mounts arriving in the main game.

Between the ambitious sequel and these fresh gameplay updates, it is evident that Mojang and Microsoft are working hard to keep the franchise at the forefront of the gaming conversation.
