Sicario 3 in Development with Taylor Sheridan Writing Script

Taylor Sheridan has become a prominent TV writer over the last decade through series like Yellowstone, Landman, and Dutton Ranch. He also wrote three notable crime thrillers in the 2010s: Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River. After spending nearly a decade focused on television and managing Yellowstone seasons and spinoffs, Sheridan is returning to the film franchise that established his career.

Variety reports that Sheridan is writing the script for a third Sicario film following previous reports that the threequel was moving into production.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the original Sicario explores the U.S. war on drugs along the U.S.-Mexico border. The 2015 film stars Emily Blunt as FBI agent Kate Macer. Macer is enlisted by the U.S. government to help capture a Mexican drug cartel leader alongside CIA agent Matt Graver, played by Josh Brolin, and former Mexican prosecutor turned assassin Alejandro Gillick, played by Benicio del Toro. Graver and Gillick operate outside conventional legal boundaries and withhold crucial information from Macer.

Sheridan wrote a sequel titled Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which was released in 2018. Stefano Sollima directed the follow-up, with Brolin and del Toro reprising their roles. Day of the Soldado received a less enthusiastic response from critics and audiences compared to the original.

What we know about Sicario: Capos

The third Sicario movie, often referred to as Sicario: Capos, has been in development since 2018. Josh Brolin confirmed he will return for the third entry, telling ScreenRant that production is expected to start soon.

It remains unclear who will join Brolin in Sicario 3, though del Toro’s character survived the events of Day of the Soldado. Denis Villeneuve is currently occupied with wrapping up Dune Part Three, which arrives in December, and is attached to direct the next James Bond movie.
