The new Resident Evil adaptation has already achieved a 97% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to a forecast from Deadline, Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil could earn more than $80 million worldwide during its opening weekend. In the US and Canada, the horror film is projected to bring in between $40 million and $50 million in its first weekend, with roughly another $31 million expected from international markets. If it reaches the upper end of the North American projection, the film’s global box office take will exceed $80 million.

Analyst estimates vary. Box Office Theory previously projected a North American opening of up to $60 million, while Deadline traditionally offers more conservative forecasts. Meanwhile, the picture has received an excellent reception from critics, holding a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 91 reviews.

According to Variety, the production budget for the new Resident Evil was $75 million, excluding marketing expenses. Consequently, a strong opening would allow the film to cover its production costs fairly quickly.

Resident Evil will release in wide theaters on September 18, 2026.
