Xbox Series X Runs PlayStation 5 Games Via Emulator
A developer has introduced a new way to experience the PlayStation library.
In the summer, Sony announced it would stop producing physical discs for PlayStation games. This decision gave new momentum to various emulator developers and brought significant attention to such projects.
Recently, developer Devran Cosmo Uenal demonstrated that, under certain conditions, it is possible to play a PlayStation 5 game on an Xbox Series X. He joked: “Xbox backward compatibility is getting out of hand… since we are now adding PlayStation 5 to the list.”
He explained that the setup shown in the video below is his “PS5X” project. Devran positions it as an experimental port of the KytyPS5 emulator for Xbox, which allows PlayStation 5 games to run on Microsoft’s console in developer mode.
Devran managed to run GEX Trilogy, Hellboy Web of Wyrd, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, and the classic Quake II:
Devran noted that because Vulkan is not supported, everything has to be translated into DirectX:
I wanted to see how far we could push this… well, the project is still in its infancy and compatibility is limited, but some games are already playable—sound works and gamepad support is present.

The developer admitted that he used artificial intelligence while working on his project.
