Xbox Game Pass Achieved in One Month What Ubisoft Couldn’t: Star Wars Outlaws Doubled its Console Player Base, Analysts Say

Since its debut on Xbox Game Pass, Star Wars Outlaws has experienced a massive resurgence, effectively doubling its player base on Xbox consoles within a single week. The influx of 595,000 new participants nearly matches the total number of units sold on the platform during the game’s first year and a half on the market.

Data from Alinea Analytics highlights the instantaneous impact of the subscription model: over 100,000 users dove into the game on its very first day in the catalog. By February 23, approximately 595,000 individuals had accessed the title across console, PC, and cloud services. This short-term surge has arguably achieved more for the game’s reach than several rounds of deep discounts and promotional campaigns combined.

Despite receiving generally favorable reviews, Star Wars Outlaws was initially hampered by technical hurdles, specifically regarding its stealth mechanics and NPC detection AI. While Ubisoft actively patched these issues and expanded the narrative with two DLC chapters centered on Kay Vess, organic sales remained sluggish. Management at Ubisoft previously attributed the stagnant growth to a perceived lukewarm reception of the Star Wars brand among the broader gaming community.

Other notable titles that bolstered Game Pass numbers throughout January include:

  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — 544,000 new players;
  • Death Stranding Director’s Cut — 512,000 new players.
