Recent leaks from the set of Daredevil: Born Again have ignited a firestorm of excitement, featuring Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones together in character. These images effectively confirm that a full-scale Defenders reunion is underway for the upcoming third season. While Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones was largely expected, and fans have long campaigned for Colter’s Luke Cage to resurface, the inclusion of Finn Jones as Danny Rand is a genuine bombshell. Given the historically lukewarm reception to the original Iron Fist series, his involvement marks a surprising, albeit welcome, pivot for the MCU.
Ultimately, Jones’ return is a positive omen. It signals that Marvel Studios is finally willing to fully integrate the foundations laid by the Netflix era. This move aligns with the broader creative overhaul of Daredevil: Born Again, which saw the production pivot away from a standalone reboot to a series that directly honors its gritty predecessor.

In its earliest stages, Born Again was envisioned as a stark departure—a courtroom-centric legal procedural that largely ignored previous continuity and supporting casts, despite keeping Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. However, mid-production, Marvel opted for a massive creative course correction to bring the show’s legacy back into the fold. This shift was essential; the current iteration successfully balances the established tone of the original series with fresh narratives, such as the high-stakes “Mayor Fisk” storyline.
Attempting a “halfway” reboot is often a recipe for narrative disaster. When studios pick and choose what remains canon, they risk alienating loyal viewers. One only needs to look at the Fox X-Men franchise to see how messy timelines and inconsistent continuity can frustrate a fanbase. By leaning into the established Netflix history, Marvel avoids the confusion of a fractured reality and rewards long-term viewers.
The return of Finn Jones, specifically, serves the cause of narrative cohesion. While the Iron Fist solo series was often criticized for its writing and pacing, the fault rarely lay entirely with the lead actor. Jones never truly had the opportunity to flourish under the right creative direction. By bringing him back, Marvel has a golden opportunity to rehabilitate the character and provide the Danny Rand fans have always wanted to see.

At the end of the day, acknowledging the full history of the Netflix shows—flaws and all—is the right move. You cannot fully embrace the legacy of Daredevil while pretending the rest of his world doesn’t exist. This reunion is a chance to rectify past mistakes and finally give the Defenders the cohesive, high-quality continuation they deserve.
