Walton Goggins Confirms Fallout Season 3 Milestone

Prime Video’s Fallout series has proven over its first two seasons that video game adaptations can succeed when handled with care and creativity. Anticipation for the third season of the show is high. Fans will wait until at least 2027 to see what happens to Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus. The good news is that the third season of the Prime Video show just hit a major milestone. Star Walton Goggins confirms that filming is nearing its end.

Goggins’ comments have sparked speculation about how many more seasons of Fallout are coming and what the future means for The Ghoul and Cooper Howard.

Fallout season 3 wraps filming (for the Ghoul)

On Instagram, Jake Garber, head of the prosthetic makeup department for Fallout, posted a photo of Goggins in full Ghoul makeup. Garber announced, “That’s a wrap for me on Season 3 of Fallout. Hell of a season! Time to sleep…” Garber is an Emmy-nominated prosthetics and makeup artist who has worked on the production team throughout the show’s run.

Goggins confirmed that his part in filming season 3 had also wrapped. In a separate Instagram post, Goggins stated, “Just took it off for the last time,” referring to The Ghoul’s extensive prosthetics and elaborate costume. “Season 3… Gatdamn this felt good. I wish this road or this song would never end. Gonna miss you California… til the next time.” Goggins posted this message alongside a video of himself driving while listening to Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On.”

Goggins revealed in July that he had started filming season 3, stating he was “back in the saddle.”

It remains unclear whether Goggins meant he was finished with season 3 or with Fallout entirely. If it is the latter, it is also unknown if season 3 will be the final season or just Goggins’ final appearance. Given the prominent role of The Ghoul and Cooper Howard, the show would likely struggle to continue without the actor.

Amazon MGM has not confirmed a fourth season yet. However, Aaron Moten, who plays former Brotherhood of Steel soldier Maximus, discussed a much longer run for the adaptation last year.

“When I signed on to do the series, we would have a starting point, and they gave me the endpoint,” Moten said at Comic Con Liverpool 2025. “And that endpoint hasn’t changed. But it is season 5, [season] 6 type of endpoint. We’ve always known that we were gonna take our time with the development of the characters.”

When does Fallout season 3 come out?

A release date for the third season of Fallout has not been announced. Based on previous production timelines, the show will likely return in late 2027.

Amazon renewed the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series for season 3 in May 2025. The company confirmed several new cast members, including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Westworld), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom, Lovely & Amazing), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, The Acolyte), and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit, Last Night in Soho). Prime Video has not announced which roles these new cast members will play.

The adaptation has proven successful for Prime Video, with the first season garnering over 100 million views as of October 2024. The initial run received 17 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Goggins. Season 2 earned nine Emmy nominations and won two. The second season received generally positive reviews, despite facing criticism for circuitous storytelling.

Fans eager to know the direction of the series can look at where Lucy and The Ghoul’s post-New Vegas journey will take them next.
