VisionQuest Episode Features Marvel Watcher Cameo

Marvel projects often contain hidden Easter eggs for attentive fans, and Disney Plus’ VisionQuest is no exception. Recent episodes featured the surprising return of the MCU’s very first villain alongside another unexpected cameo. In a quick moment, The Watcher makes an appearance.

The cameo lasts for only a second at timestamp 32:41 in the sixth episode, titled “Deadlock.” During a confrontation between Vision and Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, a mysterious figure known as the Client intervenes by speaking through several televisions in a window display. The silhouette and glowing eyes of The Watcher are visible in the doorway on the right side of the screen during this shot. Showrunner Terry Matalas confirmed the cameo in a post on X by writing, “Good eye. Or … eyes.”

In Marvel Comics, the Watchers are a species that record the history of the universe. The most famous member of the group, Uatu, has appeared in the MCU multiple times starting with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He narrated the animated series What If…? and also made appearances in X-Men ’97 and Daredevil: Born Again. Although Uatu is sworn to remain a neutral observer regarding Earth, his appearance in VisionQuest introduces dangerous implications.

Will VisionQuest see Ultron and The Watcher face off in live action?

The season 1 What If … ? episode “What If…Ultron Won?” takes place in an alternate reality where Ultron detects The Watcher, which triggers a battle spanning the multiverse. Ultron plays a major role in VisionQuest, and his independent actions could lead him into another conflict with the Watcher. However, Ultron only posed a significant threat in What If…? after acquiring all the Infinity Stones. Without that immense power boost, a live-action version of that specific battle is unlikely to happen.
